Image Quality: RAW or JPEG?

When I started doing photography (I think this applies to most people) you snap like crazy (I still do sometimes) and your photos are all stored in JPEG however I highly recommend writing them as RAW files. It has so many benefits. You may not be aware of the benefits now whilst your still learning, but everyone regrets it in the long run.

JPEG is a compressed file, the benefit is of course you can fit more on to your card and still get quality photos. The RAW file takes up a lot more space, but is exactly what it says RAW so you get the best possible quality with absolutely no compression. This also increases how versatile the image is for processing, allowing things to be changed much more effectively. Such as exposures and white balance settings.
